Light Tackle Fishing Key West

Light tackle charterboat in Key West with huge Permit.
Now that's what I'm talking about. Nice permit Pepe!
Pepe's Conch 27 fishing boat in the Key West harbor.
Captain Pepe's Conch 27 light tackle boat in Key West - shipshape and ready to catch fish. Available for 1/2, 3/4, and full-days of fishing.

Light tackle fishing in Key West usually refers to catching a fish in a sporting manner: with a line of lower breaking strength.

It's hand-to-hand combat, with the angler actually fishing, setting the hook, and battling the fish.

In the Florida Keys, this type of fishing is most associated with snapper and grouper fishing. But that is not to say you won't catch other species.

For example, if you reserve a charter with Capt. Pepe, you may use this technique to go after every fish in the ocean including: grouper, snapper, permit, shark, cobia, barracuda, king mackerel, wahoo, tuna, sailfish, marlin, dolphin, bonita, and tarpon.

His boat, a Conch 27 (one of the most preferred light-tackle hulls used in Key West) is state-of-the-art and loaded with top equipment (fishing gear, electronics, hull, and engines).

Pepe's Light Tackle Charter Prices:

  • 1/2 day (4 hours) $600
  • 3/4 day (6 hours) $750
  • full day (8 hours) $900

Pepe's Boat:

  • Custom 2003 Conch 27' center-console boat
  • Twin 200hp Yamaha outboards
  • 17 years fishing local waters

Keys Fishing Fact
The Florida Keys are located in the most biologically diverse area of the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean sandwiching the islands, while the warm Gulf Stream current meanders close by, the ocean surrounding the Keys contains more species of fish than anywhere else in the Atlantic.
